Zverev had to quit playing since June after a serious injury in France. The German player had 3 ligaments in the ankle in the semi -final against Rafael Nadal. Zverev then had successfully connected ligament surgery and increased training recently.
This injury caused the 25 -year -old player to miss the next two Grand Slam tournaments, Wimbledon and US Open. He was still named in the German team to prepare for the Davis Cup 2022 group stage at home. Even so, Zverev revealed that he was still experiencing many pain in the ankles and was forced to withdraw from the national team.

“I think I have practiced too much and now I am feeling extremely painful,” the Olympic Games Tokyo shared in the extra press conference before the tournament. “I need to make a reasonable decision, otherwise my body will be in danger in the future.”
The unable to attend the US Open caused Zverev to drop from the second place of the 5th to the latest men's ATP. He is expected to re -export in October to attend the Japan Open. However, the recovery of injury has not had positive changes that Zverev was forced to delay the return date.

“It took a few weeks, even a few months before I could return to the competition,” Zverev admitted. “Becoming a part of the national team attending the Davis Cup in my hometown Hamburg is my great goal. That has driven me continuously over the past weeks.
But this dream was melted into smoke, making me extremely sad. I tried to do everything to be present, but the new issues on my legs forced me to retreat. “
Yannick Hanfmann is the name replacing Zverev's position. Germany will start the journey at Group C at home with a competition with France on September 14.
