Matteo Berrettini and Felix Auger -anssime met on the first day of the 2021 Laver Cup.
The higher ranking does not help Berrettini have a favorable start in Set 1. The Italian tennis player is subdued by the youth of the 21-year-old opponent and lost 7-3 in the tie-break series. However, Auger -anssime could not preserve his results later. Berrettini won 7-5 in set 2 and pulled the match into Set 3 in the form of tie-break. In the “gun battle” series, Berrettini has promoted the bravery to win the 10-8 button, bringing the first score for the European team.
A few hours earlier, Casper Ruud did not need to enter the third set to subdue American tennis player Reilly Opelka. The 10th world ranked player won 6-3 in set 1 despite the cheering of American audiences for Opelka.
