In this year's Roland Garros, Kiki Bertens had to stop right from the opening round. Polona Hercog, the former number 4 in the world lost 1-2. This failure continues to extend the disappointing results of the Dutch star this season.

In fact, Bertens' performance is quite affected by injury. In 2020, she had to withdraw from the third round of Roland Garros due to Achilles tendon injury and then on the surgical table. The Dutch player later missed many tournaments and had just returned in Qatar Open in March this year.

After careful consideration, Bertens has recently come to the decision to retire after the 2021 season. The 20th rank player in the world said from now until the end of the year, she will attend at least 3 more tournaments, Eastbourne Open, Wimbledon and Tokyo Olympics before hanging the racket.

On his personal page, Bertens wrote: “Hi everybody. I want to announce that 2021 will be the last season in my career. I am the one who always raises myself the highest requirements. However, at the present time, my motivation was completely empty. The balance between the level of satisfaction with the efforts I spent every day is gone”.

Sharing more about this decision, Bertens shared: “I feel extremely happy to be able to end my career in this way. Hopefully in the last tournaments, I will get good results. Besides, I also want to say that I feel extremely proud of what I have reaped on the past.

I think the most important thing for me now is to have a new home and start a new life. Maybe in the future, we will have a few more children or a dog. This is just a normal family life, but it is the goal that I really want”.

Bertens is currently ranked 20th in the WTA rankings. She is considered one of the best female tennis players of the Dutch tennis village when she has risen to 4th in the world in May 2019. Up to now, the 29 -year -old star has won 10 women's singles and 10 women's championships. The best achievement of Bertens in Grand Slam tournaments is to reach the semi -finals of Roland Garros 2016.
