Roger Federer's peak played career was closed after Rafael Nadal experienced the first double battle in Laver Cup 2022, with the Frances Tiafoe/Jack Sock on the world team. Both Nadal and Djokovic expressed their regret when the 41 -year -old legend decided to stop.
Nadal said that he felt 'an important part of his life was gradually leaving' when Federer no longer played professionally. After Matteo Berrettini defeated Alex De Minaur/Jack Sock to help the European team lead to the score of 8-4, Djokovic also broadcast the same message.
The Serbian player hopes that Roger Federer changes the retirement decision. He also expressed his joy when the remaining Big 4 members attended a tournament without each other's opponent like Laver Cup.
“I think Laver Cup is the only competition that you can play with the biggest competitors of your career as a teammate. That is why we especially recommend the tournament.
I will enjoy every moment in and outside the field, especially this year with 4 of us (Andy Murray, Roger, Rafa and I myself) cooperated together. I always hope Roger will come back so we can play together again”, Daily Express quoted a 35 -year -old tennis.
After that statement, Djokovic directed to the fans present at The O2 Arena to ask if they wanted Federer to return. The audience appreciates that proposal by making a passionate applause.
“That sentence is hard to return. I think it is an honest answer to Federer's ability to re -export. However, I like Novak's idea as well as the reaction of the crowd before that idea,” Tim Henman – former No. 4 in the world and won 11 titles while playing – sharing.
