China has the first male tennis player to attend the ATP Masters 1000

Shang Juncheng has impressive starts when he was only 17 years old but he achieved important milestones. He was the first Chinese athlete to play in the main round of Indian Wells and the first Chinese player who was eligible to attend an ATP Masters 1000 event in history.

And yet, at the age of 17, Shang Jumpeng is also the youngest player in the ATP Masters 1000 qualifier for the past 18 years. The previous one who conquered this record was the king of the Rafaell Nadal (Hamburg Open at the age of 16).

The journey to Shang Juncheng's felt ball started about 10 years ago. His father and his mother are professional athletes. Shang Yi played football and Mr. Wu was a table tennis player who won the world championship.

With the sports gene and more brave, Shang Juncheng embarked on the tennis path and soon showed outstanding qualities. Along with early and methodically invested, Shang Jumpeng is growing up.

At the age of 12, Shang Juncheng and his father moved to Florida, the United States and enrolled the Sanchez-Casal Tennis Academy founded by the former world No. 7 player Emilio Sanchez. Here, he immediately impressed Sanchez.

Under the advice of this former player, Shang Juncheng won the world youth and then won four ITF World Tennis Tour.

Shang emphasized that he did not idolize Federer, Nadal or Djokovic but chose the idol Li Na, Chinese tennis legend: “She is one of my idols when she grew up and witnessed her winning the Grand Slam was the most special thing ever.”
