Australia expanded 2024 to start on January 14 next year. Recently, the Organizing Committee has just announced the list of players participating in the qualifying round. The two most notable names are Dominic Thiem and Emma Raducanu. Both are not allowed to receive a special capacity in the main round.
Dominic Thiem has emerged as a phenomenon after being crowned in the US Open 2020. However, the Austrian player then did not keep his form. After a long struggle with injury, he had just returned to play in the season 2023 but did not achieve much success.
Currently, Thiem is ranking 98 ATP. Notably, he still has the opportunity to enter the main round without qualifying if there is an extra player withdraw.
Emma Raducanu is also a former US Open champion. The British player had to quit in April after having to undergo surgery in his wrist and ankle. Currently, she is ranking 299 in the world.
Like the case of Domimic Thiem, Raducanu is also waiting for players to withdraw so that they do not have to play a qualifying round. The US Open 2021 champion is 5 classes away from the main round.
