Puetz, 33, now playing next to his teammate from Denmark Freddie Nielsen confronted with two seeds, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in Doha.
In the first game of Set Hai, Puetz leaned on the ball and unfortunately splashed. The racket hit the yard and turned into his eyes. Puetz immediately collapsed, hugging his face in pain.
Puetz lay down on the yard, in the meantime, his teammate Niesel carried his racket in his pocket, and the Cabal rival brought Puetz a chair.
Referee Mohamed Lahyani ran to a stone bag to help him relieve pain before the five medical pairs were present to check the wound of the player.
“I don't see it clearly,” Puetz told referee Lahyani.
“Freddie, I can see it clearly when I stand still, but if I look around, I can't see it clearly,” he turned to tell his teammates.
Still holding on his face, Puetz punched his teammates and decided to give up.
With Puetz leaving the field, Cabal and Farah of course the couple won. Farah sent encouragement to the opponent.
“I feel sorry for Tim,” Farah interviewed on the field. “This is something that none of us wants, to splash the eyes. I really hope he can recover soon.”
