The move showed that the 36 -year -old player recovered his leg injury at Australian Open earlier this year. He was somewhat ready for the season to take place on the ground.

The injury caused Nadal to play only 4 matches in 2023. He missed a series of events, including Dubai Championship and two Masters 1000: Indian Wells and Miami Open. The owner of the 22 Grand Slam fell to the 9th place on the ATP rankings and most likely 'out' from the top 10 world since 2005.

“I am recovering. I do as much as possible every day to recover as possible. I try every day. I don't know when I will return to the competition. We must have a little patience,” Nadal said.

If Nadal re -appeared in the clay season, the most obvious choice promised to be Monte Carlos Masters. Monte Carlo Masters 2023 started on April 8. In case of not being able to attend the Masters 1000 in France, he will play at Barcelona Open. Recently, former player David Ferrer implicitly revealed that Nadal will compete at one of the two events.
